The Tallest of Tales Alison Erika Forde
27 July - 10 November 2013
Manchester Art Gallery
Free entry

From 27 July, Manchester Art Gallery presents The Tallest of Tales, an exhibition of new work by contemporary British artist Alison Erika Forde. The exhibition features 12 new, previously unseen works, displayed together for the first time in a special installation.

For The Tallest of Tales, Forde's works are displayed around and within a small wooden hut, specially created by the artist for the exhibition.
From outside, Forde's works and the house itself are playfully evocative of children's stories such as Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding
Hood, but inside there is a dimly lit and cramped atmosphere. As such, the house forms an integral part of Forde's art, transforming her exhibition
into an innocently enchanting installation on first look, but with a series of contrasting, darker works to explore within it.

Yiiikes! present...The Glowing World of Snotboobs and the Severed Toe

I've been very, VERY quiet for quite a while now, but that's because I've been really busy adventuring and planning for exciting stuff that's happening soon!

Firstly, my good Artist pals Seleena Laverne DayeKandy Diamond and I have formed an arts collective!!!

We are Yiiikes! hear us roaaarrr!!!

A little about Yiiikes!

'Yiiikes! is an artists' collective, brought together by an appreciation of gross-out, curios and our dreamlike state. Making vibrant multi-dimensional art that incorporates sculpture, paint and performance, we aim to engage and entertain the viewer with escapism into a parallel universe'

Check out our website www.yiiikescollective.co.uk for information on our manifesto and latest news.

SECONDLY...we have an exhibition coming up at Islington Mill!!! BE THERE!

Are you afraid of the dark? Coz this i going to give you goosebumps!!!!

Exhibition Launch: Thursday 16th May 6pm FREE
The debut installation by Yiiikes collective. Imagine the enchanted forests from your dreams and nightmares, where what lurks could be friend or foe, your eyes play tricks on you and things are not quite what they seem…this is the world of Snotboobs and the severed toe..This is a glow in the dark exhibition, involving a level of audience participation.
This exhibition will be a melting pot of the visual delights, sensations and physicality that *Yiiikes! draw inspiration from. Storytelling, folklore and fairytales are traditions passed down from generation to generation, like the processes used in creating the installation artworks. Yiiikes! have created a new world which Snotboobs inhabits, with imagery heavily influenced by a mix of traditional literal illustrations, early theatrical stage sets, nostalgic motif references from their youth, and more contemporary art installation experiences, playing on the senses with light and scale.
Yiiikes! believe it’s DIY or die, from teaching themselves new craft skills, to sourcing materials to work on, their DIY ethos has made this exhibition a reality. Brought together by an appreciation of gross-out, curios and their dreamlike state they make vibrant multi-dimensional art that incorporates sculpture, paint and performance.
Yiiikes! like 90s cartoons, goo, anatomy, comic art, book illustrations, outsized things, miniature things, the dark arts, villains, creepy stuff, DIY, crafting, collecting stuff, 70s colour palettes and nature.
